HEPWELL (Tenofovir Alafenamide 25 mg) is an antiviral medicine. Tenofovir alafenamide (TAF)
Depending on the specific formulation and indication, tenofovir alafenamide 25 mg is commonly used:
To treat chronic hepatitis B (HBV) infection.
In combination with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection.
TAF is converted inside the body into the active drug tenofovir diphosphate. This blocks reverse transcriptase, an enzyme viruses need to reproduce. This reduces viral replication and helps control the infection.
It is generally taken once daily, but the exact instructions depend on the condition being treated and the prescribed regimen.
It controls hepatitis B or HIV but does not by itself cure these infections.
If being used for hepatitis B, do not stop it suddenly without medical advice, because hepatitis B can flare up after discontinuation.
TAF was developed partly to provide effective antiviral activity with less exposure to tenofovir in the kidneys and bones than older tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), although kidney and bone monitoring may still be appropriate.
