Product Description
Carboplatin injection is a platinum-containing chemotherapy medication used to treat various advanced cancers, most notably epithelial ovarian cancer and small-cell lung cancer. It works as an alkylating agent, binding directly to the DNA of rapidly dividing cancer cells to prevent them from replicating, which ultimately triggers programmed cell death.
Administration & Dosage
Method: It is administered strictly as an intravenous (IV) infusion into a vein by a trained healthcare professional in a hospital or specialized medical facility. The infusion duration varies based on clinical protocols.
Frequency: It is commonly given in cycles, allowing the body time to recover between treatments.
Dosing: The exact amount is highly individualised. Oncologists calculate it using a specialized system called the Calvert formula, which factors in the patient's specific kidney function (creatinine clearance) and the target concentration level of the drug (Area Under the Curve, or AUC).
